School Hours

Pick Up

Pick up: If for any reason you are going to be late picking up your child at dismissal time, please call the office at (301)894-6886. A simple explanation to your child dispels fears that you may have forgotten him/her. Carry our telephone number with you, please (301)894-6886. We request that you be considerate of our staff with regard to being on time.

Health Records

Health Records, etc: Immunization forms must be kept on file in the office for every child. Report all communicable diseases to the office immediately, so that the parents of children in your child’s class may be alerted. If your child is not well enough to go outdoors for playtime, please keep him/her at home. Outdoor play is very important to the well being of our children. Both teachers are required to be on the playground, and a child cannot be left alone in a room.

Drop off and Pickup: You are required to walk with your child to the door and wait until the teachers have admitted him/her. The children are released only to adults. If someone other than the specified person will be picking up your child, please call the office to inform us of this fact. Kindergarten children ONLY are dropped off at the curb. Parents of kindergarten children must park in the parking lot and come to the classroom door for dismissal.

Show and Tell: Show and Tell notices will be sent home when the teachers assign dates for this event. This is not a regular weekly or monthly event in most classes, so please wait until a notice is sent home. Please do not let the children bring toys from home other than on a show and tell date. CDs, tapes and books are always welcome.

Dress: Appropriate clothing for Corkran Preschool and Kindergarten is play clothes and sneakers. Please print your child’s name inside raincoats, jackets, sweaters, rain boots, lunch boxes and backpacks. Absolutely no flip-flops, cowboy/girl boots or rolling backpacks. Lost items may be claimed in your child’s classroom or the office.

Monthly Statements: Accounts should be paid in the office by the DUE DATE on the statement. If you have any questions regarding your statement, Mrs. Smallwood, our bookkeeper will be happy to speak with you. Your financial statement will come home each month in your child’s backpack. Please do not give your tuition or any other money to your child’s teacher, bring it to the office. If you have an unusual circumstance and your payment will be late please stop by the office and speak to Mrs. Smallwood, so arrangements can be made to keep your account current. Delinquent accounts may result in dismissal of your child from our program. Remember periods of absence due to sickness, travel, etc. can not be deducted from your account. Enrollment and payment in our school is expected for the entire nine month school year. If you must withdraw your child from school be sure the office is notified 30 days in advance: otherwise you will be responsible for the next month’s tuition.

Field Trips: “Out of House” field trips will be planned during the year. Newsletters will notify you at the beginning of each month. It may be a good idea to keep our plans quiet until at least one week before the trip, as it is very difficult for the children to wait several weeks. Two year olds and Three year olds do not go on field trips away from school. We will have “In-House” field trips for all children and you will be notified of these by newsletter also.

Newsletters: You will receive a newsletter each month to keep you informed of our activities here at school. Please take time to read it, there is always important information inside. Always check your child’s backpack for notices, artwork, financial statements and papers done at school. This is very important.

Conferences: Please do not attempt to discuss concerns or problems at the door of the classroom with the teachers. Your teacher will be happy to talk over anything that may be concerning you. She will meet with you as soon as you both are available. You may ask your teacher for an appointment or call the office to make arrangements. Scheduled conferences for Four year olds and Kindergarten classes will be held in November. There is a magenta basket in the office where you may leave a note for your teacher or to the office. We check the basket each day and send them on to appropriate people.

Birthday Parties: If you would like your child to celebrate his/her birthday at school—notify your teacher in advance and plan to bring enough special cookies, cupcakes, donut holes or whatever you choose for all the children and teachers. Please-NO CANDLES. The school will provide the drink. Please check with the teacher in regards to food allergies. Parents may attend their child’s party (parents DO NOT attend Two year old parties or Kindergarten parties) to assist with refreshments, if desired. Each teacher has their special ideas for birthdays—so please speak with them. Just make your interest known to your teacher. Kindergarten classes celebrate birthday parties with treats from home, parents do not attend. If you are having a Birthday Party for your child outside of school, DO NOT pass out invitations unless everyone in the class is invited. Please mail them if only a few are being invited. We are trying to prevent any hurt feelings. Thank you for honoring this policy.

School Holidays: A tentative schedule for the year is published in the September newsletter. If you enter the school later in the year ask for that tentative schedule in the office. This schedule may change if inclement weather is an issue.

Severe Weather/Snow Policy: Our school opening time on snow or any weather emergency days will be announced on television channels 4, 5, 7 and Newschannel 8. You may also check the Home page on the website (www.corkranschool.org) or call the school to hear a recording left on the answering machine.

Chewing Gum: Please do not allow your child to bring gum to school. It is very difficult for other children to understand that someone has a piece of gum but does not have any to share.

Parking Lot Safety: Please park in the spaces provided in the parking lot. DO NOT PARK AT THE MAILBOX. DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE ALONG THE CURB OR DRIVEWAY ENTERING FROM TEMPLE HILL ROAD OR IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH OR THE SIDE OF THE CHURCH. Do not leave your car running and do not leave small children in the car alone. Your preschooler must walk with you across the lot. Do not allow him/her to dash ahead of you. Children in car pools should hold hands as they cross the parking lot. Please do not use the handicapped lanes unless you have handicapped tags or you have received permission from the office. Kindergarten children ONLY are permitted to be dropped at the sidewalk and walk into their classroom alone at arrival time while the parent remains in the car. Kindergarten parents must come to the door for dismissal.

Lunch Bunch: All children (except those in the Two Year Old Classes) are invited to participate in our Lunch Bunch Program on their class day. This program is in operation five days a week and you do not need a reservation. Your child should bring a bag or box lunch and a drink (no glass) with him/her on the day or days you have chosen and the teachers will be sure your child is taken to the Lunch Bunch room at 11:30 a.m. You may pick up your child at 1:00 p.m.

Extra Care: Before and After care is offered each day. Before care opens at 7:30 a.m. each day, all children will be taken to their classes at 9:00 a.m. After care is offered each day and runs from 11:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please call the office if you need more information.

Thank you for your interest in Corkran Preschool, if you think of any questions we have not answered please feel free to call us (301)894-6886, we will be happy to speak with you.

                                                       Sincerely,
